Who we are

O nás

I met Ziggy through mutual friends in 1997 in Perna, which is a small village in the Czech Republic. Soon after we met we were unfortunately separated and had to spend a little while apart as Ziggy moved to the UK for work. Fortunately, we were able to meet again and decided to build a home together in Prague.

In 1999, Ziggy went to work in Hong Kong where I joined him 2 years later. We left Prague thinking that our stay in Asia would not be long, but time went by rather quickly and before we new it eight unforgettable years had passed for the both of us. It was in Hong Kong where we first discovered yoga. Ziggy was the first to fall for its beauty. I followed him only after his endless persuasions. For some reason I was reluctant to leave my gym membership and aerobics classes behind. However, I am now thrilled that his energy overpowered my doubts and we found something to share and grow in together.

We started in a large studio with many other practitioners and our favorite classes were those that included ‘Vinyasa’ flow. As time passed, our visits became more frequent and yoga became a big part of our lives.

We attended different courses with teachers in the studio to learn more; and in winter 2006 prepared for a journey to an ashram in north India. Everything was set to go, but in the end we couldn’t get a visa in time! Although we were disappointed, we were not deterred. We searched for other options and soon found a retreat centre in Thailand that offered one week ‘Pranayama and Meditation’ courses - So off we went. During this course we were introduced to ‘Ashtanga Yoga’, which was a part of our daily practice. From the first day of the course our whole practice was taken to another level. The practice of ‘Ashtanga’ and ‘Pranayama’ became our daily routine and our aim was to better understand the practice and its philosophy.

We regularly visit our main teacher Paul Dallaghan in Thailand and have also practiced with R. Sharath Rangaswami, Ivana also with Guruji in Mysore. We are grateful to Alex Medin and especially Kimberly Roberts for all their support during the many months we have practiced with them in Hong Kong. We have attended workshops with renowned teachers like O.P. Tiwari, Richard Freeman and others. But mainly, we keep up our regular practice and learn from it’s ups and downs.

Now that we are back in Prague we have opened “Yogaspace” to share with others what we have learned and keep learning on our amazing journey.

Namaste Ivana & Ziggy
