Why 54 sun salutations???

54 is a half of 108. The number 108 is very significant in Indian and other cultures.

108 is a number that connects Sun, Moon and Earth. The diameter of the sun is 108 times the diameter of the Earth. The distance from the Sun to the Earth is 108 times the diameter of the Sun. The average distance of the moon from the Earth is 108 times the diameter of the Moon.

Mala (garland similar to a rosary) used for meditation and chanting has 108 beads + 1 Guru bead. The Guru bead represents summer and winter solstices when the sun appears to stop in its course and reverse directions. Also the chanting stops at the Guru bead and direction is reversed. It is reminding us that we are connected to the universe and all of the nature.

The addition of digits 1 0 8 we get number 9. Number 9 is also a sacred number, it is connected to Brahma (the God of creation)

In astrology, there are 12 houses and 9 planets. 12 times 9 equals 108. And many more...

Places are limited. Please let us know by e-mail or SMS if you would like to come. If you can not come on Sunday morning but would you like to donate to the above organization, you can do that in the studio till the end of June.

Namaste!
